Cary was born just weeks before the Cuban Revolution and has lived in this house since the early 1990s. The building, a former Chinese Cuban laundry, still bears traces of an older Havana: Art Deco doors, neoclassical details and exposed iron beams where clothes once hung to dry. Her children have left the island, like so many others. Now she lives alone with her animals.
