HOSPICE
HOSPICE is a collaborative documentary project supported by Music in Hospices, a charity that brings a creative arts model into palliative care, with the aim of reshaping experiences of end-of-life care for families across the UK.
Conceived to transform public perception around an often misunderstood word, this work reveals the humanity of hospice care through its portrayal of death as a shared, inevitable experience—and one shaped by the quality of care at its end.
Yuma Studios founder James Clifford Kent spent a week working alongside the team at Community Hospice, southeast London documenting the daily rhythms of care, loss and support, producing a range of documentary-led images, stories and video content that reframe palliative care as intimate, human and deeply social.
The hospice emerges not simply as a place associated with death, but as a community of staff, patients and families bound by compassion and dignity—where final moments are met with presence rather than fear.
The project was published in the world’s leading medical journal, The Lancet.
Our deepest thanks to the staff, and above all the patients and families who
let us into their world.

“At a time when demand for palliative care is growing, it is vital that more people understand not only what hospices do, but why this care matters so much to patients and families."
